it's really falling apart in northern kent county and into new castle county. warm air arriving with rain to the south. it's going to be pretty quiet to start with this afternoon, that's when it's going to start accelerating. 32 degrees in philadelphia. 38 for cape may with rain just moving into the area. but here's where you could run into icy spots, just a little bit of precipitation overnight, just enough to wet things up. if it hasn't been treated you could run into the ice this morning. clouds are over the city. the wind has died down a little bit. occasional showers, light showers possible this morning. especially to the south. 35 degrees at 9:00, even if we do get scattered snow showers, the temperatures will be climbing to near 40 this afternoon. we could see up to an inch along the coast and into southern delaware. but inland, we're looking at 1 to 3 inches. this is by tomorrow morning after this whole thing is said and done. you won't see this much snow this morning. we're still watching an airy in
southern southeastern pennsylvania where there's a upon for more snow. farther to the north in the lehigh valley, you're looking at up to two inches and many areas will see less. we'll go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington watching your first alert traffic. jesse? >> we'll run through cameras in different parts of the airy right now. this is pennsauken, new jersey right around the white horse pike at collingswood circle. no backups or problems. you can see one lonely car moving along nicely. heading on over into route 309 around the pa turnpike, no problems in either direction there as well.roadway is still looking particularly dry. here's the pa turnpike, no problems there. moving through, westbound/eastbound, route 1 to valley forge. speed are still in the 60s and 23-minute trip if either distraction. light, scattered snow is
falling in some parts of the viewing area. some parts of delaware could see the most snow between now and tonight. matt delucia is live in newark, new castle county. >> reporter: a little bit of snow did fall overnight. you see the light coating on the parking meters and trash cans. as far as the roadways, it's really just wet at the moment. here's what's happening county by county. in new castle county, the deldot crews went on the clock at midnight. they put down brine solution the major roads to treat them. over in sussex county it's more of a monitoring situation. deldot says plow operators will be on standby mostíy as they are expecting rain to fall. one important note, d.a.r.t. is operating on a normal schedule. expect minor delays, at least when the snow returns. as the snow approaches, one big problem going on around here that you should keep in mind, more on that coming up in the
next half hour. it's something to do with what you do when the snow starts to fall. we are waiting here in waiting mode in delaware but for the most part, just be careful out on the roadways. some slick spots out there. live in newark, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. now crews treated many roads before the first snow moved in late last night. with temperatures at or below freezing, some side streets as bill mentioned, if they haven't been treated could be slippery. nbc 10's katy zachry is live in stormforce 10. you're in doylestown. what are the roads like there? >> yes, we are in the county seat of bucks county. doylestown, tracy, between horsham and doylestown we encountered light rain as we made our way north on 611. here's in doylestown if you look to the left and right of your screen as we pass through main street, you can see a light dusting of snow on all of the cars parked along the road. the sidewalks, though, we're keeping our eye out for sidewalks and local roads for overnight icing.

now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 4:39. the temperatures have been dropping overnight. as far as precipitation, well, we've seen a little bit but not a lot. it's meltd ed on many of the surfaces. light accumulation on grassy surfaces. watch out for icy spots. a lot of roads have been treated. the majors will be fine but ni
anything that's untreated could be dicey, 32 degrees, right at the freezing mark in philadelphia. the wind is out of the east/northeast at 9 miles an hour. dry right now, radar showing completely clear. the clouds are overhead and producing light snowfall. it's just barely coming down now in southern delaware, in southern new castle county in delaware and a few snowflakes reaching into new jersey. but there's warm air coming up. cape may is at 38 degrees right now, starting to get another round of rain. you will not run into icing there. just inland, the temperatures are colder. icy, slippery spots will likely be found. there is an area of light snow moving through baltimore. that's going to be inching into pennsylvania. so not a lot of activity to start with. as we go into the afternoon hours, watch how it changes. here's what to expect, montgomery and bucks counties, 9:00 this morning. the temperatures below freezing. you could see icy spots in doylestown up to 30 degrees for
norristown. dry, no sign of any snow at that hour. clouds overhead at 1:00. waiting for snow at 1:00. here is comes. during the afternoon and heading into the evening commute, 34 degrees, just above freezing for limerick, doylestown at 33 degrees, there will be some accumulating snow, especially on grassy surfaces at 3:45 thisç afternoon. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast is calling for the temperatures to come up above freezing. middle 30s for allentown, reading and quakertown. light snow developing this afternoon. a cloudy morning in doylestown, trenton and mt. holly. warmer this afternoon, icy spots can be found this morning. at the shore, another threat of coastal flooding. 40 degrees this afternoon for atlantic city. rain at the shore, come in in, you're more likely to find snow showers during the morning hours and into the afternoon. today, philadelphia will likely get snow this afternoon. drexel hill, 39 degrees, upper 30s also for wilmington. with temperatures above
freezing, that will limit how much snow will be accumulating cure the day today. seven-day forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. all right, bill, thanks. let's turn our attention to the roads and get you to work on this tuesday morning. look at the roads in delaware. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has that. jessica, what are you seeing? >> we're starting 0 of in dover right now on route 1. exit 104 around scarboro road. not a lot of cars in sight. roadways looking okay and clear for right now. heading out the door on 95, here's also through delaware. the drive times are okay, northbound or southbound, 295 to 495. speeds in the 50s. it's still an 11-minute trip headed southbound. the lehigh valley at lehigh street, no problems in either direction. there is significantly more cars out there than we've seen in delaware. everything moving along nicely. here's mass transit. the paoli thorndale train, 9569 is canceled so far this morning from center city into thorndale

city where we spotted people moving their cars to higher ground last night. this comes as coastal flooding yesterday morning and more damage happened during january's blizzard. >> you just have to be prepared for it. if it comes, it comes. there's nothing we can really do about it. >> officials say they expect this morning's high tide to be worse than yesterday. right now there are a handful of school delays closings. they're available on the nbc 10 app and they are running at the bottom of your screen. this morning, police are trying to track down a killer who opened fire in a tgi friday's parking lot in delaware. it happened last night around 7:00 on north dupont highway in new castle. police responded when they got a call that shots were fired. >> we've been here for three hours. >> police interviewed about 30
workers and customers who were inside the restaurant. the man police are working to identify is believed toç be in his late 20s. police are going through surveillance video to try to figure out what may have led up to that shooting. now, to the latest on a police investigation into former eagle lesean mccoy. sources tell nbc 10 that charges will be filed against mccoy and three others for their involvement in a nightclub brawl that sent two off-duty philadelphia police officers to the hospital. the fight started over a bottle of champagne in side the recess lounge near second and market on sunday. >> i can't come up with any type of argument over a bottle of champagne that would lead me to wanting to knock somebody to the ground and kick them and stomp them in a brutal way. >> mccoy now plays for the buffalo bills. they are in the process of gathering more information and are not commenting. today, a teenager who was videotaped sucker punching an
elderly man is expected to turn him into police. the attack happened two months ago. the video shows a man being punched in the face as he was about to cross the street. the police found the video on facebook last week. the 17-year-old is no stranger to them. they recognized him as soon as they saw him. >> believe it or not, most of the intelligence came from police officers. >> something should happen to him. that was rude. that man wasn't doing nothing to him. he just hit him like that. >> has he ever done stuff like that before? >> he cursed out teachers. no respect. >> the 16-year-old boy who videotaped the incident turned himself in to police over the weekend. state inspectors in california are trying to determine if strong winds caused the canopy to collapse at a gas station near los angeles. it was caught on a security camera. there was a car at the pump when the metal roof came down. no one was inside. the car was crushed. two maintenance workers were on
the roof over the gas pumps when they noticed cracks. one managed to get away, one rode the roof to the ground. no one was seriously hurt. the faa says there are more registered drones in the u.s. than there are planes. there are 325,000 registered drone owners, 5,000 more than registered manned aircraft. in december, the federal government launched a registration program to help the faa track operators who fly dangerously. happening today, the super bowl champs, the denver broncos will be rewarded with a parade through the team's hometown. the broncos defeated the carolina panthers in a game dominated by the broncos defense. the victory was peyton manning's second super bowl win. today is fat tuesday, the last day of mardi gras in new orleans.ç celebration and security are both being described as
unprecedented this year. with more than a million people expected for the celebration. some 1,100 new orleans police officers are on patrol, many under cover. fbi agents are also there. all of this adds up to big bucks in the big easy. dumping an estimated $840 million into the local economy. ten minutes before 5:00 right now. learn return locally and take a look at the roads. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has those. >> we're looking specifically around route 41 on the 42 freeway over in deptford. the northbound lanes are typically where we see most of that delay at least first for the morning time. we usually don't see a lot going on to the southbound side headed down it the shore or the atlantic city expressway unless there's an incident in place. a four or five-mile stretch from 55 to the walt whitman bridge, a five-minute drive time and no problems in either direction north or southbound. heading into montgomery county, an accident just popped up in
hatboro, north york road and east county line road. if you're heading into -- if you are in new jersey or heading into philadelphia this morning, we do have speed restrictions on the area bridges put in place. the commodore barry, the ben and the betsy ross, 35 miles an hour. more updates in the 5:00 hour. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 4:51. the temperatures have come down overnight. we've seen scattered showers but right now it's dry in philadelphia. clouds overhead and a little bit of aj#tbreeze is blowing. a waiting game for the snow to arrive later this morning and into the afternoon for philadelphia. looking at light snow, by then the temperatures will be warmer. manly a grassy accumulation today. 32 degrees in philadelphia. just cold enough that you could see icy spots this morning if it hasn't been treated. a little bit of wet weather overnight, just enough to make
for some slipping and sliding this morning. otherwise, we are dry for most of philadelphia. but just to the south, the winds are still kicking. the coastal flood threat for the jersey shore, for delaware beaches and even into the delaware, the coastal flood warning in effect until 1:00 this morning noon, between 7:30 and 8:30, high tide in delaware just a little bit later. a coastal flood advisory in effect for the delaware where jessica boyington has reported some flooding already this morning. satellite shows the clouds overhead as far as wet weather, well, it's really a loosely organized system. it's not going to be a major weather. that is rain that's falling now south and south jersey. you can see it's inching into a mix of rain and snow and into new jersey. as far as delaware county and philadelphia is concerned, we'll see a light snowfall at 8:00 this morning. we can see it just moving in
from the south. it will hover to the south. that will allow temperatures to rise by noontime to near 40 degrees. so when the snow does move in, we're going to see grassy accumulation but it will be one of those snows that a lot of it melts as it's coming down. it will still be coming down at 6:00 this evening and into the evening hours. not expecting a ton of snow but through tonight, this is by tomorrow morning, we see up to an inch in parts of south jersey. 1 to 3 for philadelphia and trenton. we're still watching an area in southeastern pennsylvania and northern delaware that could produce more snow. you will see lots of clouds and periods of snowfall, mainly this morning and into this afternoon. high temperatures in the upper 30s, low 40s. overnight tonight, the snow falls. 39 degrees the high temperature after a morning low of 31. antarctic blast starts moving in on thursday. it gets quite cold friday morning dropping down to 18
degrees. not a bad rebound friday afternoon. here comes the real cold over the weekend. saturday morning, 12 degrees. 17 in the afternoon. check out sunday morning down to 2 degrees and another very cold morning on monday. the temperatures will be moderating over on monday afternoon. sunday of course is valentine's day. you'll have to come up with a plan. that wasn't my plan. >> come up with your own plan for staying warm. you're on your own in that department. >> the biggest concern this morning is just the icy conditions, it's just pretty wet. >> we have had light showers overnight and the ground was warm enough that that melted as it came down. now temperatures have been dropping. so i've seen a lot of treated roads this morning which is great. they've gotten ahead of this system but there's still a possibility you'll run into icy spots this morning. then we'll see snow developing later this morning and this afternoon, but not a ton. >> thanks, bill. >> light snow showers and the
